Sharing your files and folders is a major method to get your PC infected from malware.But you may need to share files and folders when you are doing a team work.
Here, I am going to explain few steps to protect yourself when doing file sharing.
Don’t keep shared folders forever.
If someone needs to send you a file just ask them to buzz you. Then you can share the folder temporary. When sharing is completed, remove the share.
Setup a password for shared files.
If you have a shared folder without a password, anyone on the network will able to access your files. So malware has a great opportunity to sneak in to your PC. Make it a habit to create passwords for shared folders.
Do not share the partition.
Just share the file or folder only. Do not share the whole partition. It gives malware more chances to infect your critical files. Try to give minimum access.
Try to give minimum privileges.
If the other user needs read only access just give him read only access. Don’t give write permission unless it is necessary. Viruses will not able to write to your folder when you give read only access.
