It seems that the digital age just keeps getting more and more advanced. Ofcom has this year announced plans to deliver optical fibre ‘next generation’ services quicker and more economically than previously thought possible. Ofcom has announced that it will be enabling a faster ‘Super-fast’ Broadband network in Britain. BT is to lay the optics and, in a shift from its original stance, BT is to allow competitors access to the new system through the use of digital unbundling.
The unbundling process means other communications providers (CPs) can access BT’s infrastructure which in turn allows for a virtual link to be put in place. This virtual link will enable multiple superfast broadband services to be used by businesses, with download speeds of up to 100Mbit/s. Managed networks it seems would have to send their engineers on courses to get up to speed with the new superfast system, which is great if you’re a business signed up to a managed network because you can let their engineers do all the work.
The problem arises for businesses that aren’t signed up to Managed Network Systems because then, a business will have to manage the superfast system they bringing extra cost with it.
