When a litter of puppies are first born their mother will attend to all their needs including cleaning up the messy bits for her babies, up to the age of three weeks. Puppies can not hold up toiletry habits at this early stage of their lives and you now become a ‘chef’ and in charge of toilet duties. It may feel like you give them water one minute and you clean up after them in the next.
It helps to remember that just after mother had fed her puppies they will start to go round in circles, a sure sign that you should be ready for your toiletry duties. Doggy tip: Puppies like to be fed away from their toilet area. When mother dog has no more milk to give or the puppies have grown large enough, start them on small portions of puppy food.
